OGF Main | PHILOSOPHY

The Open Gaming concept is based on the Free Software GNU General Public License created by the GNU Project. Additional information and many useful links can be found at the Open Source web site.

Open Gaming means two key things:

1. Game Rules and materials that use those rules that can be freely copied, modified and distributed.

2. A system for ensuring that material contributed to the Open Gaming community will remain Open and cannot be made Closed once contributed.

The Foundation will support the distribution of any Open Gaming project regardless of the license used, provided that the terms of the project conform to the two definitions listed above.

Within any given publication there may be a mixture of Open Gaming material and material with separate copyrights or trademarks. You should carefully read the the copyright and trademark notices of any Open Gaming publication before copying, modifying or distributing the original or your own version.
